To begin the 2023 Art-Hop-Polis exhibition series, the FEU presents Lignes figées, Lignes vivantes (Steady Lines, Living Lines) by resident artists Libéral Martin and Onix Vanga. In this augmented reality exhibition, they explore the relationship between their artistic practices. Through the use of augmented reality, their works are brought to life through the spectator’s phone screen. The line-drawings generated by Onix with the Perlin-noise code generate a pseudo-random appearance as they encounter Libéral’s line-drawn animated creatures. Their perspectives merge through their research of the organic within the artificial. This installation of lines leaving the paper when relieved from the static world showcases the thin line between virtual and reality.
The opening will take place on Wednesday, January 11, as part of Art-Hop-Polis. The detailed program will be available on CitéScope soon.

About the Artists
Since 2018, Liberal Martin has been living and working in his artist studio at the Fondation des Etats-Unis (FEU) in Paris. Previously, he studied animation at ENSAD. He directed his first short film linking music and animation, Destinations, in 2015-16. In June 2020, he completed his latest animated short film Les Mécanorganes awarded “Best Experimental Short Film” at the Valencia animation festival. Libéral is actively involved in the artist community and cultural prgram of the Fondation des Etats-Unis. In 2021-22, he participated in the organisation of a screening of animated films and three collaborative exhibitions, Would do again, Liberation Deflagration and Mirror Mirror. Liberal is currently working on his next animated short film Dichotomie, which explores philosophical concepts through drawing animation.
Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico & raised in Maryland State, Onix Nieves Vanga has been a bonafide creator from a very early age. Flourished post-adolscence confecting murals, always kept himself involved in the energy of the community. Later on by becoming more acquainted with eclectic collections & collectors of art, he realizes the importance of academic knowledge and the fundamentals of art, however he is never held back by them. Currently based in Paris, France, realizing that what is acceptable has changed and has been altered, using art as his vehicle to channel spiritual expression, Onix mixes a variety of mediums to display and project experience empirically. Onix joined the artist community at FEU in September 2022.
