Khalid McGhee

Khalid McGhee, American pianist and collaborator, received a Bachelor of Music with Distinction in Piano Performance from the Northern Arizona University – Kitt School of Music, where his principal teachers were Frank Scott and Rita Borden. He continued his piano studies at the Institut für Musik der Hochschule Osnabrück under the tutelage of Tatiana Liakh, as a two-time recipient of the Deutschland Stipendium (Germany Scholarship).

Originally from Saint Louis, Missouri, his formative years included rigorous training across genres in both piano and voice. He participated in such programs as El Sistema’s Orchestrating Diversity and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ Bayer Fund Artists-In-Training Program, and additionally trained in gospel, musical theater and jazz, solidifying his diverse musical prowess at a young age.

Khalid’s versatility encompasses solo piano, chamber music, song accompaniment, vocal coaching, and musical direction. He has performed internationally in festivals including the Siena Summer Music Festival, the Hidalgo Festival, Kammermusikfestival Hagen, and Labor Europa, alongside three years as a junior-faculty pianist for the Music in the Marche summer opera program in Mondavio, Italy.

Speaking 5 languages, he is an avid linguist as well as a dedicated educator. He was recently awarded a Fulbright grant to Munich, Germany, where he investigated the use of music as a tool to enhance language learning and social integration for school students with migrational backgrounds.

Khalid currently resides in Paris, France, where he is an Artist-in-Residence and Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar at the Fondation des États-Unis for the 2023-2024 academic year. He will pursue a Diplôme Supérieur in Collaborative Piano/Vocal Coaching at the École Normale de Musique de Paris “Alfred Cortot”, studying with Irene Kudela.
