“A philosopher of sound” –BR Klassik
Ivan Ilić entered the University of Berkeley in California at the age of seventeen, where he won a First Prize in piano and a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics. Thanks to a scholarship from Berkeley, Ivan Ilić continued his studies at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris in 2001 and obtained a First Prize in piano. He perfected his skills at the École Normale in the classes of Christian Ivaldi and François-René Duchâble.
He will then perform across Europe, North America, and Asia. During his formative years, Ivan Ilić was a laureate of the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris, the Fondation Karić in Belgrade, the City of Paris and the Fondation Nadia et Lili Boulanger. In 2014 his latest album – The Transcendentalist – explores a repertoire of meditative miniatures by Alexandre Scriabine, John Cage, Morton Feldman, and Scott Wollschleger. The album was chosen as “Classical CD of the Month” by TGV Magazine, received the Clic de Classiquenews, the Coup de coeur from the Bavarian radio BR Klassik as well as the Swiss radio Espace 2, a 5-star review from the Czech magazine Harmonie, the Top 5 CD of the month from Sinfini Music in the United Kingdom, the Supersonic prize from Pizzicato Magazine, a 5-star review from Aachener Zeitung, and it is the recommended CD from Listen Magazine in the USA. In November 2014 the album was nominated for the “International Classical Music Awards” in the category “Album of the Year”. Ivan Ilić edited an art book in tribute to the American composer Morton Feldman, in collaboration with the Geneva School of Art and Design (HEAD), released in November 2014. Le Nouvel Obs salutes the “sublime immobility” of Ivan’s interpretation Ilić, and the Tribune de Genève writes: “Under Ivan’s fingers Ilić, Feldman resurfaces ethereal and moving”.
