Korean-American pianist and FEU alumna Suejin Jung is coming to Paris to present the Printempo concert that she was not able to perform during her residency as a Harriet Hale Woolley scholar. Her program, inspired by nature, will combine classical music and interdisciplinary projects.
I will be showcasing pieces inspired by nature written from the 17th century up to our current time. In this program, nature is depicted in various ways from a subjective representation of landscapes, animals, and elements (air, water) to a reflection of human greed echoing the major environmental issues of the 21st century. Included in the program are standard repertoires of Debussy and Chopin as well as fixed media work by Kyong Mee Choi and audiovisual work by Jaroslaw Kapuscinski with videography by Kacper Kowalski. — Suejin Jung

Korean American pianist Suejin Jung enjoys a distinctive international career. Pushing boundaries to expand beyond her classical background, she incorporates various interdisciplinary collaborations in her work. She has won first prize in the 2020 Goodmesh Concours, a multimedia art competition in the Netherlands for her project Breathmark, which illustrated themes of climate crisis and racial injustice. Through collaborations across different artistic fields supported by grants including the New York Foundation for the Arts, Suejin has been able to imbue new life to numerous classical repertoires.
As a performer of various capacities, she has been invited to perform as a collaborative pianist at festivals such as Music Academy International (Mezzano, Italy), Ecoles d’Art Américaines de Fontainebleau (France), and New York International Piano Competition. She has been a featured soloist with Ensemble Calliopée (France), as a part of a residency project at the Fondation des États-Unis, Ruse Philharmonic Orchestra (Bulgaria), Rutgers Symphony Orchestra, The Discovery Orchestra, Virtuosi Brunesis Orchestra (Italy), and her performances have been broadcasted and live streamed on PBS and The Strad.
Suejin received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, where she was a student of Julian Martin, Matti Raekallio, and Joseph Kalichstein as a recipient of Kamiya Sisters, Paul Jacobs Memorial, and G.G. Ulmer Memorial Scholarships. She was an artist-in-residence at Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris, France as a recipient of the 2019-2020 Harriet Hale Woolley Scholarship. She pursued Stage de Perfectionnement at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris working closely with Anne Queffélec during this time. Her collaboration project during her residency Debussy Chromatique etude with artist Liberal Martin was selected for the Les Films de la Toile festival in Paris. Future engagement includes performances at Vršac International Chamber Music Festival in Oslo, Norway, and a debut album recording with the TRPTK recording label in the Netherlands.
As an educator, Suejin has served as a faculty member at Drew University, Rutgers University Extension Division, New York Music School, and PS 11 in Manhattan as an Education Outreach Fellow through the Juilliard School. Suejin is a Steinway Education Partner and currently resides in Irvine, California.
