To kick off this new edition of Printempo, Harriet Hale Woolley scholar Dhyani Heath will present a program featuring works by Szymanowski, Bacewicz, Debussy and Fauré.
Polish Impressionism: The influence of French impressionism on 20th century polish music
Combining a selection of works by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Karol Szymanowski and Grazyna Bacewicz, this recital is a showcase of sound and sight, where the crossover between the visual arts and music will be explored through works of different artists and composers who are tied to French impressionism. Various paintings by polish impressionist painters will be projected during this concert, for an enriching multisensorial experience.
Szymanowski, who was hailed has the “polish impressionist”, along with female polish composer Bacewicz, were both influenced by the French impressionist movement and by French composers Ravel and Debussy. We hear similarities in harmony, sound color and texture in an array of pieces including the shimmering “Myths” as well as lesser-known works such as “Glass Window”.
It is an invitation to appreciate the world of impressionism as expressed by two different nations, a musical and artistic alliance.

The Musicians
Dhyani Heath enjoys a versatile musical career with solo, chamber music, and orchestral performances worldwide. From early music performances on historical instruments through collaborations with contemporary composers, Ms. Heath strives to reach artistic beauty and harmony, exploring the full sound spectrum of the violin.
Ms. Heath started her violin studies at the tender age of 7 with Pavel Feldman in Montreal, Canada. At the age of 16 she and her family relocated to Salzburg (Austria) as she was invited to study with the famous pedagogue Igor Ozim at the Mozarteum University. She holds a master’s degree in Violin Performance from Yale University, where she was a recipient of the Denis Adams Scholarship, the Phipps White Scholarship, and the Broadus Earle prize for “outstanding violinists” while studying with Hyo Kang. She also holds a second master’s degree in Violin Performance from the Paris Conservatoire, under the tutelage of Professor Michael Hentz.
During her years as a student Ms. Heath furthered her musical experiences by taking part in several international music festivals, including the International Mozarteum Summer Academy (Austria), the Music Academy of the West (USA), the Vermont Mozart Festival (USA), and the Encuentro de Música Festival in Santander (Spain), to name a few.
Fluent in five languages (English, German, French, Chinese, and Indonesian), Ms. Heath also enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for music with serious violin students of all ages and nationalities. Her teaching philosophy focuses on guiding students through the technical and interpretative principles of violin playing, while allowing them to develop individually into their own sense of style and expression.
Upcoming and past performances include concerts in France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Canada, and the United States. Ms. Heath currently lives in Paris as a Harriet Hale Woolley scholar.
Born in 1994 in Helsinki, Kristoffer Mikael Gylling started piano at age 4 with Meri Louhos, a renowned pedagogue in Finland.
Since age 6, he also took classes with Svetlana Izmailova, a professor from Saint-Petersburg, who was his teacher for more than 12 years.
In 2013, Kristoffer entered the class of Prof. Hamsa Juris at the Helsinki University of Arts. Two years later, he was received by the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris into the class of Prof. Michél Béroff.
In 2018, he obtained two bachelor’s degrees in piano with distinction from Helsinki and Paris. He completed his master’s degree at the CNSMDP in 2020 under the tutelage of Prof. Marie-Josèphe Jude and her assistant Prisca Benoît. Kristoffer is first prize winner of the Chopin Competition is Estonia 2008, special prize winner for the best interpretation of a contemporary piece at the Nordic Piano Competition 2014, he obtained the 5th prize at the Concours international de piano de Lyon in 2019, and the Medal of the city of Epinal at the Concours international de piano d’Epinal, in 2019.
In Paris, Mr. Gylling played at the Festival Chopin de Bagatelle, and at Radio France.
