In Motion IV: Morceaux Choisis | Althea Dance Company

Morceaux Choisis presents short danced and filmed pieces representative of the company’s work over the past few years. Between lightness, mystery and reverie, these short excerpts interpreted by the dancers of Althea Dance Company take the viewer on a unexpected journey where boundaries between reality and imagination become less and less clear… Althea Dance Company will be at FEU for the In Motion IV dance workshop from July 14 to 19 and will also present a piece created with the participants.

Althea Dance Company‘s work is a blend of contemporary flow and seamless movement, yet very physical, which mixes floor work with the lines and extensions of the dancers. Althea Dance Company is a young contemporary dance company based in New York. The company focuses on international collaboration with artists from different fields such as writers, musicians, painters or visuals artists. Althea Dance also likes to perform in surprising and unusual spaces such as warehouses, artist studios, art galleries or outdoor stages. The company explores new ways of sharing dance with the audience and reaching out to people who may not be used to the contemporary dance scene. So far, Althea Dance Company has performed mainly in the US, France and Mexico and is aiming to keep expending its international voice. Althea Dance Company has been in artistic residency at FEU since 2018.

About the Artists

Théa Bautista is a Franco-Mexican dancer and choreographer and is the founder of Althea Dance Company. She studied music and dance for 10 years at the Maurice Ravel conservatory in Paris and did a one-year program at the Rick Odums International Jazz Dance Center in 2013. She decided to go to New York to continue her training in 2014 and graduated from the Peridance Capezio Center in June 2016. In the United States, she worked for different projects with important choreographers such as Charlotta Öfverholm, Milton Myers, Ronald K. Brown, Catherina Rago, Igal Perry, Shawn Bible and with the companies Oniin Dance Company, Azul Dance Theater, Horse Work Dance Project and IKADA Dance Company. It is also in New York that Thea created her company – Althea Dance Company – in 2018. Since her return to France in 2020, Thea has been dancing for the French compagnies R2 and MLNK while continuing her work as a choreographer and dancer for Althea Dance Company. She has also been invited to create pieces in collaboration with visual artists, notably for PAN Publications during an exhibition at the Cité des Arts in Paris or with the MASI collective, artists of urban scenography. Thea is currently working on various international projects which will be presented in France, the United States and Mexico.

Deborah Lotti, born in Luxembourg in 1993, is a professional dancer, and dance teacher. Since starting her professional career in 2013, she has performed with several dance companies, such as the Ballets Jazz Rick Odums, the Armstrong Jazz Ballet and the RB Dance Company. Her interest in various danceforms led her to the participation in the Jacob’s Pillow Contemporary Program, a Bachelor thesis on Swing dance and cabaret shows with “Les Allumettes”. Following on her aspiration to be a pluridisciplinary dancer, she attends several workshops like the Gaga Summer Intensive in Tel Aviv, masterclasses with Chet Walker, Desmond Richardson or the Hofesh Schechter Company and had the privilege to work with choreographers like Ohad Naharin, Nathan Trice, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and Christine Bastin. Nowadays, based in Paris, she performs in the RB Dance Company’s touring show “Stories” and teaches modern jazz at ESPAS-Danse while being invited as a guest teacher and solo performer in international dance festivals in Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Logan Pedon began his dance training at the age of 13 at a small studio in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase in May 2016, where he feels he has been able to reshape himself as a thinker, mover, and creator of dance. During his time in the BFA program at Purchase, Logan has performed the works of Ori Flomin, Greg Dolbashian, Shannon Gillen, MADBoots Dance, and Ellen Cornfield. He hopes to use dance to connect to a larger network of creative, inspired, and intellectually-driven individuals, to stay healthy, and to keep doing what he loves.
