The Fondation des États-Unis is pleased to welcome the Chœur Interuniversitaire de Paris, directed by Samuel Machado, former resident of the FEU, on Thursday, April 20 at 8pm.
After its first performance of the 2016-2017 season, as the chorus in Luc Steel’s opera Fausto, the CIP will perform Schubert’s Mass in G Major as well as the Gounod Pater Noster, Tantum Ergo by Cesar Franck, Sanctus from Gounod’s St. Cecilia Mass, and Laudate Dominum from Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore.
The Chœur Interuniversitaire de Paris
The University Choir of Jussieu, founded in 1982, became the Chœur Interuniversitaire de Paris in 2008. Samuel Machado has been its director since 2013. Although the choir is composed of amateur singers, it works hard during its weekly rehearsals and monthly weekend rehearsals to be able to present several quality performances a year. The CIP is open to any singers, new or experienced, who are looking for a serious but friendly musical adventure. All the members work together with the director to develop their musical ability and create an excellent choral sound. The repertoire includes major works from the Renaissance to the present as well as sacred and secular choral pieces, often performed a cappella. Stay up to date with their news and performance dates on Facebook.
Samuel Machado, Brazilian choral and orchestra conductor, was very young when he was admitted to the São Paulo Municipal School of Music, where he received a degree in flute performance and choral conducting. He then went on to earn a Bachelor’s in flute performance from São Paulo State University. Samuel was designated principal flautist in the Sergipe professional orchestra, the Lyric Orchestra, and the Youth Orchestra of São Paulo, but decided to continue his studies in Europe. He first studied with Felix Renggli at the Johannes-Brahms-Konservatorium in Hamburg, Germany. He then received a scholarship from the Zaleski Foundation to study at the École Normale de Musique with Pierre-Yves Artaud, where he also earned a degree. At the same time he received his DEM in conducting with Nicolas Brochot and Laurent Goossaert, as well as a DEM in flute education with Gilles Burgos from the CRD in Evry. As a winner of the Clé d’Or and Prodige Art competitions, he became a flautist in the Cité internationale orchestra and a member of the Ensemble Sallustio and Ensemble Parallèles. Samuel often plays as a guest artist with the Orchestre de Flûtes Français and the University Orchestra of São Paulo, Orchestre Mélodix, and Orchestre Symphonique du Rail. Currently Samuel is studying for a Master’s in Musicology at the Sorbonne, doing research in flute and choral conducting. Once a resident of the Fondation des États-Unis, Samuel is now director of the Chœur Interuniversitaire de Paris and its instrumental ensemble as well as the Chœur L’Oréal. He recently became director of the Chœur Faidoli and the Chœur du Campus Paris-Saclay à Orsay. He gives lessons in music organizations and teaches choral singing at the École Municipale de musique et danse in Plessis-Pâté. Samuel also directs the Ensemble Instrumental Paul-Claudel and the Orchestre à l’École à Cergy.
