“Art and Psychiatry” | Medical Cultures

The Fondation des États-Unis is pleased to open the 5th edition of the Medical Cultures conference series in partnership with the psychiatric units of the 16th arrondissement of Paris (Centre Hospitalier Sainte-Anne – GHU Paris Psychiatrie & Neurosciences). Every year, the FEU awards one Harriet Hale Woolley scholarship to a student of psychiatry. In order to create a strong link between the FEU’s rich cultural program and research in psychiatry, Laurie-Anne Claude (the 2018-2019 HHW recipient) initiated a partnership between the FEU and the psychiatric units of the 16th arrondissement. Through this partnership, three artists-in-residence at FEU – Maximilien Gremaud, Timothée Lambert and Ximena Salemron – proposed three different artistic workshops for the patients (art and theatre), which they gave in collaboration with the staff who run the therapeutic workshop program. Based on this experience, the artists, psychiatrist Dr. Marine Rambaud and nurse Inès Milongo will give a conference about art and psychiatry. Taking art in psychiatry and its benefits in therapeutic care as a starting point, they will first discuss the use of art in psychiatry before presenting the rich experience of this partnership between the FEU and the psychiatric units of the 16th arrondissement. The patients’ artwork will be exhibited at the FEU for the duration of the conference.
