The DbD Experience (Doing by Doing) is a 23-hour intensive weekend created by renowned interdisciplinary performance artist Rachel Rosenthal in Los Angeles. Nathalie Broizat has worked with Rachel Rosenthal for 5 years, and she is the first former member of the Rachel Rosenthal Company authorized to pass on this technique. The method applied to the DbD was developed between the 50’s and 70’s in Los Angeles with the Instant Theater Company. “Doing by Doing” is the underlying philosophy of the workshop, providing participants with a thorough hands-on experience covering all aspects of theatrical performance (body, voice, sound, music, movement, lights, sets, props and costumes), approached through exercises, processes and improvisations of solos, duets and group work. The nuts and bolts aspect of the work is technical and professional. All levels of experience are welcome. This workshop is open to anyone interested in committing to a full, one weekend artistic experience, whether you are a professional artist of any discipline, amateur or simply interested in a new experience. All creative souls are welcome!

About the artist
Having trained at a dance high school with René Bon, Nathalie Broizat began a career as a dancer in Lyon while perusing her university education. In 1998, she graduated with a degree in performing arts from Paris 8 University. In 2000, she received a Fulbright scholarship for her choreographic studies at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York. She spent three years in New York where she developed her solo work and performed in venues such as Movement Research at Judson Church, Dancespaceproject at St Mark, Dixon Place etc. She also regularly worked for the Accidental Movement Company directed by Mariangela Lopez. She then moved to Los Angeles to work with Rachel Rosenthal and was a member of the company for more than 6 years. She also developed her own work and performed in places such as Redcat, Moca (Museum of Contemporary Art), the Getty Center, Highways Performance Space in Los Angeles, the Single File Festival in Chicago, the University of Mississippi etc. Since returning to France, she has been working with Marco Berrettini (iFeel3, My Soul is my Visa) and Anne Rebeschini (HH). She also works for choreographer Anna Gaïotti and visual artists Laura Sellies and Amélie Giacomini. She runs the Love Labo Company in residence at the Fondation des Etats-Unis. In 2015, she received Rachel Rosenthal’s DbD legacy, which she merged with her own work methodology to develop both its pedagogical and performance aspect. She regularly leads the DbD Workshops for professional artists and amateurs, as well as in the humanitarian and corporate context. Performance artist Nathalie Broizat directs the Compagnie Love Labo, in residency at the Fondation des Etats-Unis. Her next creation InstantT2020 for 10 dancers and performers will be premiered at Théâtre de Vanves as part of Ardanthé 2020, and pre-premiered for the Danse Dense festival.
