Meet Adela
Originally from Miami Beach, Adela Hurtado is a Peruvian-American 2D animator, production designer, and lawyer based in New York. She earned her BA at New York University and her Juris Doctor and LLM from Fordham University School of Law and Peking University in Beijing, respectively. Before transitioning to animation and filmmaking, Adela worked on public interest legal causes at non-profit organizations, law firms, and the United Nations. She has always loved animation since childhood, and during law school took night classes on the subject; even after starting her career as a lawyer she continued this training, specializing in 2D hand-drawn animation. Since then, she has embarked on an artistic career, working on animated and live-action films as well as photography projects in Peru and China. Her works have been exhibited at the Walt Disney Family Museum in California and at various galleries in New York. Wanting to give back to the community, Adela co-founded the NYU Latinx Alumni Network in 2017 and is now president of the group; she also recently co-founded Viva La Animación, a new animation community supporting Latin storytellers. As she is now ready to take the next step in her animation career, she has begun studying at les Gobelins in Paris as part of their MA in Visual Storytelling program, developing her own animated projects based on her Peruvian heritage, her experiences, and themes of nostalgia.
