Joëlle Antonia Santiago

Joëlle Antonia Santiago (b. New York, NY) is a New York, London and Paris based artist whose work encompasses choreography, performance, and writing. Joëlle’s work uses a disability ethos and a preoccupation with language to investigate grief, biblical iconography, and narrative. She frequently collaborates with musicians, sculpture artists, theorists, and filmmakers, creating pieces for galleries, museums, sculpture gardens, and other social spaces. Joëlle is a recipient of the Fulbright Harriet Hale-Woolley Award for the Arts in Paris, France. She is currently an Artist in Residence at the Fondation des États-Unis (Paris) where she will create choreographic projects throughout the 2023-2025 season. Joëlle is thrilled to receive choreographic mentorship from the Artist Development Program at Sadler Wells Theatre in London (2024-2025). She has presented work at the NYU Tisch School for the Arts, Roulette Intermedium, Chelsea Piers, The Clark Art Institute, The International Studio and Curatorial Program, CitéShort Film Festival (Paris), the Fondation des États-Unis (Paris), with the PROMPTUS collective and Blackbox Music Ensemble. Joëlle was selected as a 2024 choreographic fellow for AXIS Dance Company and is involved in an ongoing collaboration with Dance Pour Parkinsons, Paris. She is an adjunct professor at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she directed the summer high school intensive, and has guest lectured at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, and the Fulbright Association. She is an ambassador for ITSLIQUID Group, a global communication platform for contemporary art, architecture, design, and fashion. Joëlle graduated Cum Laude from Barnard College of Columbia University (B.A., Dance), a nominee of the Bold Award, honoring alumna Grace Lee Boggs. She speaks French and is studying Spanish.
