For the November edition of Art-Hop-Polis, the FEU presents an original exhibition honoring Josephine Baker, on the first anniversary of her Pantheonization. Several French and American artists, residents, alumni and friends of the FEU have submitted their works for two private evenings dedicated to the Franco-American friendship, including the screening of the movie Josephine Baker, un Destin Français in July. Throughout the month of November, we invite the public to discover these creations inspired by the strong, engaged, touching and flamboyant personality of Josephine Baker.
The opening will take place on Wednesday, November 2, as part of Art-Hop-Polis. The detailed program will be available on CitéScope soon.

About the Artists
Born in Saint Malo in 1955, Bertille de Baudinière received her diploma from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1982. From 1983 to 1985, she was an artist-in-residence at the Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris and was awarded in 1985 the Prix de la Fondation Nationale of the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris. Starting in 1986 Baudinière studied in Japan upon receiving the Monbucho scholarship at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where she received a master’s degree in 1990 in the Department of Occidental Painting Techniques under the direction of Kazumichi Sakamoto. From 1990 to 1991, she was an artist-in-residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha. In New York from 2008 to 2012, she was active in the Long Island City artists’ community, working at Reis Studios. Baudinière has shown her work continuously since 1982, with solo exhibitions throughout France and in Japan, Germany, and the United States. Her paintings are represented in public and private collections including the City University of New York, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Tomura Gallery in Tokyo, and the Fondation des Etats-Unis.
Active in the fields of visual communication, graphic design, artistic direction and pedagogy, Erwann Gauthier has been designing, since the creation of Ezz-thetic (graphic design workshop in 2000), many fields of graphic expression such as editorial design (books, catalogues…), digital design (new media, websites, interfaces…), global communication (logos, visual identities, graphic charts…) and compaigns in all media, both public and private. This work, which began a long time ago, is part of a continuity of colour and rythms. “The colour of jazz” reveals an approach that is above all free, instinctive, poetic and improvised, which writes the same story, like jazz: it does not end, always in movement. The first two series of portrait have been displayed at the FEU during Jazz à la Cité 2019 and 2020.

Born in 1997, Timothée Lambert began his artistic studies in the preparatory class of ENSBA Lyon before joining the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. Having studied photography and stage design, he went back to his childhood obsession: drawings, stories, and lettering. His current works are inspired by diaries and impulsive ideas, with which he seeks to become comfortable to create intimacy with the reader. Timothée recently took part in the group exhibition Would Do Again and a film evening showcasing resident filmmakers.
