The Fondation des États-Unis is pleased to present the exhibition Rhizome by four artists-in-residence at the FEU: Marcel Abadia, Marius Buet, Timothée Lambert and Libéral Martin.
Rhizome is an exhibition that brings together four branches of the visual arts: oil painting, ink, marker and digital drawing. The line is the starting-point of our various drawing practices and it is this common factor and interest that brought about our collaboration. Marius Buet and Timothée Lambert are exhibiting spontaneous and colourful comics. Libéral Martin and Marcel Abadia, both animators, are showing some more organic research – human and animal, but also mechanical – which are presented as the imprint of their respective imaginations.

About the Artists
Marcel Abadia was born in Orange County, California in 1998. He is currently living in Paris and in his second year at LISAA (L’Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués) where he studies 3D animation. He is also interested in dancing and interpreting music through movement. His future goal is to be a 3D character artist for animated films, as well as having fun and entertaining and inspiring people whether it be through art or any other creative outlet. He hopes you enjoy the exhibition!
Marius Buet was born in Suresnes in 1995. After studying literature in prep-school and at the Sorbonne, he attended the Ateliers de Sèvres to prepare his application to the Beaux-Arts, where he currently works in Joann Sfar’s Studio. His work explores the relationship between representation and narration through painting and illustration.
Born in 1997, Timothee Lambert began his artistic studies in the preparatory class of ENSBA Lyon, before starting at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. After photography and stage design, he went back to his childhood obsession: drawings, stories, and lettering. His current works are taken and composed from diaries, impulsive ideas, in order to become comfortable with them and to create intimacy with the reader.
Liberal Martin grew up in Normandy. His parents are both architects. He began learning from his three older sisters, who are all visual artists. In 2014, he started at ENSAD where he is studying animation. He directed his first short film linking music and animation, Destinations, in 2015. This experimentation lead to other multimedia productions such as Willem Van Haecht and VERTE OFF in 2016 and Fake 48-6 in 2017. His research on synaesthesia is outlined in his dissertation “Du mouvement musicale à l’image”, in which he discusses the image/music relationship in film and animation. In 2018, he joined the community of resident artists at the Fondation des États-Unis and started directing a short film which will be released in April 2020.

Due to current circumstances, the gallery is unable to accept visitors during the month of November, 2020.

COVID: Mask required, please use the hand sanitizer made available at the entrance. Access to the gallery will be limited to ten people and a distance of one meter should be kept between visitors.
